Located in the northwest corner of the state, Franklin County is bounded on the west by Lake Champlain. The Missisquoi River passes through the northern part of the county and the Lamoille River flows through its most southern section. There are over 47,500 residents in this rural based community.
Franklin County's education system consists of four supervisory unions with fifteen K-Middle schools and five high schools. Those communities without high schools can send their children to the school of their choice. There are two technical centers in the county: Northwest Technical Center in St. Albans, and the Cold Hollow Career Center in Enosburg.
Franklin County is served by the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. Due to a pair of renovation and expansion projects in the early 1990's, this private, not-for-profit, community hospital now operates out of the second youngest hospital facility in Vermont. Northwestern Medical Center maintains close ties to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vermont.
